Pilmeni (yummy Russian dumpling) Making

On Wednesday, we went to Babushka's house to have lunch. We left at about 11:30 AM, and ended up staying until about 7:45 PM. Why? We were making pilmeni (which we ended up eating for dinner). After that of course, we were stuffed! But it was a lot of fun, a great thing for a family to do together.

The process:

1. First, of course, the dough has to be made, consisting mostly of flour, water, egg and salt. It takes lots of patience to get it to the right consistency.

2. Then the meat has to be prepared..

3. Then the dough needs to be rolled out and cut.

4. After that, the meat gets dropped in little balls onto the circles of dough.

5. Then, the dough gets pinched together around the meat; first into a crescent shape, and then the ends are pinched together. Lucy says it looks like a hat.

6. When all are prepared, they are boiled for about 5-7 minutes in salted water, which can be used as broth after the boiling process is complete. Then, they are ready to eat!! I took a video of Kristina explaining the process, but unfortunately I was unable to post it here. :(
