Inside the Hermitage

Today we went to the Hermitage. I'd forgotten how beautiful it was. But as I walked through the rooms, some memories from long ago were aroused. I could spend a whole day just wandering around in there. Unfortunately, we didn't have a whole day. But it was something. Of course, pictures can never really capture the awe and beauty experienced in real life, but here are some anyway. :) We had to pay 200 rubles for a sticker that said we could take pictures, but it was SOOOO worth it. ;) Enjoy!

You are probably getting pretty fed up with all these pictures of trees. But they are just SO beautiful! This is in the courtyard of the Hermitage.
The beginning of a few of my favourite paintings. This is a Van Gogh.

Another Van Gogh...

A mosaic on the floor of the Pavilion hall.

The floor of the Pavilion hall.

The chandelier in the Pavilion hall.

AWESOME woodworking!

This painting, called "The Marsh" is one of my favourites. At first glance it reminded me so much of the forest of Fangorn as I imagine it that I had to take a picture. THEN I decided I liked it.... :)

Birds

Incredible wood floors. Actually, this is pretty simple compared to what's coming.

Photographer's daughter... taking pictures of the ceiling.

More birds.

KNIGHTS!!! REAL MEDIEVAL SUITS OF ARMOUR SITTING ON STUFFED HORSES!!!!

Medieval swords. I saw some broadswords that were as tall as a suit of armour!! That's taller than I am. Imagine even holding a sword like that?

another INCREDIBLE floor!

More awesome floors...

Another representation of my mental picture of Fangorn.

Guess what this is: never mind. It's a FLOOR.

More floors. Guess what my favourite part of the museum was?

What's this one? Ummm.... A FLOOR???

When we went to the Palace square a couple days ago,  Lucy saw a lady dressed up as Catherine the Great. From that moment, she decided. "I MUST be a queen. I MUST!!" When we went to the Hermitage, she took one look and said, "I have to live here. I MUST live here!" Funny girl. Anyway, we found this poster of queen Lucy.

Oh and the gallant King Andrei.

There might be some competition for the throne here....

Uh-oh.... this is gonna get messy.

But there is only one queen of his heart. The noble queen Doris.
